Dear Thought Leader,

Welcome to our Summer Solstice19 special Top 10 stories in Canadian EdTech powered by MindShare Learning.

It struck me as I prepare for my trip tomorrow to the International Society for Technology in Education Conference ISTE19 in Philadelphia, this marks the 20th anniversary of The Learning Company (Kevin O’Leary) acquisition by Mattel. Perhaps we’ll have a small toast to Reader Rabbit.  Looking forward to seeing many of you at the CanAm Celebration of Excellence meetup that is fully subscribed with well over 100 attendees!

As proud ISTE media partners, watch for live updates from ISTE19, the largest International EdTech conference with over 60 countries represented and some 300 Canadians in attendance.

It was an honour to present Laura Elliott, Director of Education, TVDSB and member of the C21 CEO Academy with the C21 Shifting Minds Award for Excellence in Learning, Leadership & Innovation. Be sure to tune into my podcast with Laura as she reflects on her fascinating 39 year career and shares her secrets to success.

With the K12 school year drawing to a close, I want to thank teachers, leaders and EdTech industry colleagues for continuing to raise the bar, through hard work, innovation and collaboration as you successfully strive to prepare our leaders of today and tomorrow. All of you inspire our work on a daily basis through social media and direct comments.

It’s been an honour to connect with so many inspiring, passion and dedication people across our Canadian landscape and beyond. I won’t say my good byes yet as we have one more ‘Schools out’ issue to share!

With that, a friendly reminder to send us your comments, tips, research, success stories and upcoming events!

Until next time, keep the digital learning curve steep!

P.S. Thanks to Dr. Guy Tetrault, Director and CEO, Sun West School Division, and founding member of the C21 CEO Academy, who shared that a search is on for his replacement as he’ll be retiring a year from now.

8. E-Learning Class Size
k12sotn.ca, June 10, 2019

In March 2019, the Government of Ontario unveiled its vision for education through a policy entitled  Education that Works for You – Modernizing Classrooms. From an e-learning perspective, the proposed policy called for a centralization of e-learning courses and a graduation requirement that students take a minimum of four e-learning courses beginning with the 2020-21 school year. Either as a part of, in conjunction with, or simply at the same time, the Government also engaged in a public consultation around class sizes that would increase the class size limit for face-to-face courses to 28 students and increase the limit for e-learning courses to 35 students. The goal of this report is to examine the literature related to e-learning class size in Canada and internationally.
